custom series 9: what does it mean to be human?

by lostasylum | June 11th, 2009

Sometimes, loaded questions like these are the ones that are hardest to answer. There is no textbook answer, and a subjective answer doesn’t really cut it most times either. But that exactly what we were tasked with doing.

Our clients knew the questions they wanted to ask, they knew the theme for their camp, but they didn’t know what design would go well with the questions and the theme in order to publicise their upcoming camps for 2009.

We had worked with this client previously in 2008 and we’d like to think that they liked our work, which is why they came back to us =). In any case, they suggested doing postcards that could be sent out as publicity material. The challenge was how to create something that would embody their theme: human.

After putting our thinking caps on and providing the proposal, our final design proved to be something that the client liked and perhaps some of you may have received these publicity postcards….

We’ve decided to be a little more creative in our photo display and thus decided to compile them into a presentation style format… we hope you like it!

Don’t forget, you can always contact us via email here: admin[at]simplyblatant[dot]com, even if it’s just a query or a quotation… have a great weekend folks!

custom series 8: the hopeless romantics…

by lostasylum | May 25th, 2009

What makes a wedding special? Some say it’s how grand it is, or who makes it to the wedding celebration. For us over here at blatant© believe that the personal touch is what makes a big difference, which is why we’re big on customised wedding cards. Otherwise, you might as well source for ready made cards. Yup, we tell it like it is… that’s why we’re blatant©… =)

Anyway, back to this week’s custom series, this week we’re gonna talk about the card we did for a very romantic couple. The story goes like this… The handsome prince wanted to propose to his princess, but he wanted to do it differently. He actually went through pains to draw their memories before finally proposing. Romantic eh?

When we were approached to do their wedding cards, the couple wanted something that would include the proposal images. It was a great joy working with them because they gave a lot of input and were very easy-going. So we discussed, designed, proposed, and it was agreed…the result is a rather unique wedding card:

The drawings that were used in the proposal were digitally redrawn and added on the first fold of the card, along with the line: “since we’ve spent SOOOOO much time together…”. Little eyes were added to the letters “O” because it just added to the cuteness of the card.

The inside fold of the card shows the drawing of the couple getting married (based on drawing in front) with the punch to the statement in the front… “we might as well spend the rest of our lives together”.

Green was used as the main colour because their wedding theme colour was green and it would only be fitting that we created a card that would go with the actual wedding day colour theme.

As you can see, this will be a wedding card that even when this romantic couple look back in 10 or 20 years’ time, they will look at the card fondly, remembering the day when they decided to “pak toh” together for the rest of their lives…

It was really satisfying to know that the couple were very happy with the final product and we will try our best to continue making couples happy.

You can always request for a meet up by emailing us here: admin[at]simplyblatant[dot]com. We’ll be more than happy to show you our portfolio, offer ideas and just discuss over a cup of coffee or tea. And yes, the first meeting is totally FOC. Curious yet? =)

custom series 7: breaking through!

by lostasylum | May 6th, 2009

When dealing with youth, the designs always have to be something that will be attractive, and not the typical norm. This was what we had in mind when we were approach to design the t-shirt for a youth camp.

The theme that we had to work with was: “Breaking Through”. Now, when you think about a theme like that, the first thing that comes to your head is always a glass breaking type design. But we wanted to think of something that would be somewhat more human… more personal…

So we ran the proposal by our client, and they thought the idea was something out of the ordinary and agreed!

Black is always a favourite colour, and more importantly, it’s also a very safe colour when dealing with youth… and this is the end product:

The idea behind the depiction of “breaking through” is that there is a person inside of that t-shirt that is dying to break through. This person is still in the process of breaking through, hence why only the hands are visible “tearing” through the t-shirt…

Grey is used as the background to show that the person is breaking from somewhere deep down, and it also acts as a good foil to accentuate bring out the red and white words….

Well, we hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s custom series posting. Remember, if you would like us to create a design for you, for anything from t-shirts, to wedding cards, to posters, the first step is always to contact us at admin[at]simplyblatant[dot]com and we’ll take it from there!

Have a great weekend folks! It’s great to be back….

life is a game… or is it?

by lostasylum | March 16th, 2009

The common adage that is frequently quoted is that “Life is a Game”. Along with that phrase come the usual explanations that you can’t take life too seriously or it will kill you, or that you gotta approach as if you were playing a videogame with all its options……blah blah blah

However, when you realise that your future is decided by the choices you make today, or that some people literally live or die by the choices they make, us folks here at blatant© are less inclined to think that life is a game.

And this is why this month’s blatant© t-shirt release is entitled: “LIFE IS NOT A GAME”

Everyone, including you and me, have but one life to live: NO restarts, NO pauses, NO timeouts, NO bonus lives to stock up on.

Of course, spoofing this very old video game pretty much puts the gloss on the irony that we’re trying to portray…. =). If you don’t know which game we’re talking about, you’re probably:

    A) too young to know
    B) too old to remember
    C) not an old school video game fan
    D) spoilt…… just teasing.… =)

As usual, the t-shirts come in the normal sizes: baby-t for the ladies, and S until XXXL for the dudes…..

Believe it or not, we are STILL selling our t-shirts @ only RM29.00 (excluding postage charges), the same price that we began with more than a year ago, despite the fuel price hike and subsequent reduction, and despite the bad economy! Honestly, we don’t know how long we can continue to sell our t-shirts at this price, but we do appreciate all the support you’ve given us thus far.

To order our t-shirts, please go straight to our ORDER PAGE

NOTE: Area51 has moved out of 1-Utama and the new location has not been finalised, so for now, blatant© is without a physical home. Read more HERE
